Why The Lake District?

The Lake District's breathtaking scenery, acres of green pastureland and abundance of lakes, makes it one of the most valued and visited hill-walking regions in England.

It stretches for over 2,292 square kilometres and includes wonderful scenery, breathtaking peaks, picturesque fells, more than 15 lakes and numerous villages. The Lake District is also home to some of England's highest summits.

Did you know?

- In 1951 the Lake District was designated as a National Park and to this day remains the largest of all the National Parks.

- The Lake District has 20 million annual visitors and 2,400 km of public footpaths and rights-of-ways.

- The average rainfall is 2000mm, yet the Lake District is generally warmer and dryer than the UK's other popular walking destinations.
